Sometimes, in ways that don't make sense, we receive profound insight and unexpected gifts from events that happen in our neighborhood, and in our world.

As I write, it is September 14, 2001. The world will never be the same after the events in New York on September 11. Yet we have an unprecedented opportunity to create peace and transformation out of tragedy, to search our own souls for healing, to actively seek the "light at the end of the tunnel," when it seems like the tunnel may never end.

A local story unfolded in the weeks before September 11th. It is a small occurrence in comparison, though it is not small to the families involved. There are many parallels between the two events.

A father and his 15 year old daughter were on his motorcycle. On a country road in Southern Indiana, they were rear-ended by a car driven by a young woman. The daughter was killed instantly; the father survived. He remembers that his daughter came to him in spirit to say she was OK, and to say goodbye.

At the hospital his niece did Reiki over the next few days. Prayer circles across the country sent healing energy for his physical and emotional wounds. Family members, many of whom had been estranged from one another, gathered in love and support. Great healing has taken place due to this tragedy.

Another miracle occurred when he reached out to the young woman who hit his motorcycle. From the emergency room at the hospital, he called his mother, insisting that she promise to contact the driver and tell her she was forgiven, in case he died.

Several days after leaving the hospital, having experienced miraculous progress beyond his doctor's expectations, he met with the young woman at his home. Together, they looked at pictures of his daughter. He spoke of her life, and her light. By the time you read this, the two of them will have visited his daughter's grave site together. More healing.

Imagine the immense amount of Love in his heart. Imagine her courage, facing him. Imagine the power of Love that was present. In the face of tragedy and death, Love showed up, glowing and magnificent. This Love is available to all of us now, in ways that were never possible before.

The tragic loss of life in New York and the feelings of vulnerability, helplessness, and fear will only be healed with Love. It is the fiber that binds us forever to everyone. There is no "them." There is only Us --- in Love and Oneness.

People everywhere have come together in prayer, reaching peacefully across boundaries that have kept us apart in the past. From this day forward, we must be in action for Peace and Love throughout the world. It is our privilege and our responsibility. Not as Americans, but as Human Beings.

An actor who was in New York September 11th shared these observations: "What can be said? Just this: we will emphasize the horror and the evil, and that is all true. It is not the entire story. I saw an old man with breathing problems and two black kids in baggy pants and ghetto gear rubbing his back, talking to him. People helped each other in small and tremendous ways. All day long some family was giving away sandwiches at the Promenade.

"This act of evil pales in comparison to the quiet dignity and strength of regular people."

You and I are the "regular people" of which he speaks. Let us be Whole together in Love and demand the future we are entitled to, free of revenge and hatred. Be the Love that you are now, and every moment.

May we all be at Peace.
May our hearts remain open.
May we awaken to the Light of our own true nature.
May we be healed.
May we be the Source of healing for all Beings.
