Greetings everyone,

As the U.S. (and the world, since this really affects everyone globally) faces another major crisis, I want to share some things we each can do to help in addition to any prayers, distance work and dollars you may be sending to support those affected by Katrina. At the end of this email you will also find links to organizations that are helping people and animals, and I encourage you to participate in whatever way you feel drawn to do so. (As I was writing, many more resources came in to my email, and you will find them on the website at http://www.featherhawk.com/katrina.htm)

While it appears overwhelming and nearly impossible to make a difference if you are not right there yourself, we can all help begin the healing process through prayer and energy work. Below you will find some ideas that are simple to do and can make a huge difference right away and over the next few days and weeks.

You may be familiar with Dr. Masaru Emoto's work, explained in his books about Messages from Water. (An internet search on this phrase or his name will enlighten you about his amazing discoveries if you haven't heard about them.) Briefly, he reminds us that words and thoughts have a direct impact on water - even large bodies of water. Praying for the water is one of the most powerful things we can do to restore sanity to the chaos following this storm. He has also found that Love and Gratitude have the most profound effect.

The prayer for water that Dr. Emoto uses is this one:

I Love You, Water.
I Thank You, Water.
I Respect You, Water.

I have a quart of water from Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was gifted to me by a friend some time ago and I had forgotten about it until I began writing this email. I will be working with this water and releasing it into the Earth's water system via the Ohio River from here in New Albany, Indiana. If you wish to "aim" your prayers at this quart jar, please feel free to do so! It is sitting on a map of the United States as I write this, along with bottles of Trauma Soulution and Animal Emergency Soulution.

If you do not have Gulf water at hand, you can put some of your own local water into a small glass or bottle, bless it, and send your prayers into it out loud or by writing them on a piece of paper and attaching it, with the words facing the water. The simple words, Love and Gratitude, work wonderfully, too. As Dr. Emoto has discovered, your thoughts will be taken in by the water and remembered. If you wish you can pour the water onto the Earth in your backyard, into a local body of water, or even down the drain. All the Earth's waters are connected and will be positively influenced by your actions. This includes water in the body of every living thing.

You can also use your intention and your Heart's desire, to send healing directly to the area. On a piece of paper write the name of a city or town, a body of water (the Gulf itself or Lake Pontchartrain, for example) or simply "the entire area affected by Katrina." If you have family or friends, or a particular street or neighborhood you want to include, by all means write that on the paper as well, or on separate pieces of paper.

Hold the paper up to your Heart and repeat the prayer for water, your personal thoughts, or words or prayers that you love. When you have finished, set the paper on a flat surface, away from children and animals, where you can safely leave a candle. Place a candle on the paper and light it. Let the light carry your prayers wherever they are needed. Be sure the candle is in a holder of some kind and take appropriate precautions - blow it out if you need to leave and relight it when you return. Your intention is the most important part of this process. The steps, the ritual, the words, the candle... are all secondary and help to focus your thoughts and prayers.

All of the above work can also be done directly onto a map. Set your paper, your water, your candle, on a map of the affected area. And of course, if you are initiated in Reiki or any other form of healing work that includes distance healing, use it.

If you wish, you can also write the names of essences on the paper and send their energy, too. I would recommend Trauma Soulution, Star of Bethlehem, Yarrow Blend or the well-known Rescue Remedy of Dr. Bach - all excellent remedies for trauma, crisis and stress. The Yarrow Blend also strengthens the auric energy field to help maintain personal boundaries to aid protection from both the mental/emotional environment and the physical pollutants. For the animals, write Animal Emergency Soulution. If you have bottles of any of these essences, consider dropping a few drops on the Earth where you are, or into a body of water, or set the bottle(s) on a map of the Gulf coast.

When I dowsed for essences to shift to the area these came up:

Firefly Brings in light to "stitch up" rips and tears in the etheric body that may be caused by trauma, injury, or un-healthy attachments. For discerning the difference between attachment (being emotionally hooked) and connection (when the threads binding you to another are freely chosen, gently held, and willingly released). Firefly lights the path enabling you to maintain awareness of your connections without being attached to them. Keeps your spiritual path clear of unnecessary clutter. (This essence will help heal the rips and tears of the Earth's etheric body, too.)

Lilac Brings awareness to the vertical energy of Spirit intersecting the Earth plane. For aligning and harmonizing the chakras and spinal column of the human body to receive the Light of Spirit. Remineralizes the bones, the most spiritual system in the body.

Bloodroot Trusting one will be protected as one moves forward in her/his evolution. Helps one find the courage and inner resources to heal old wounds and move from a place of despair and darkness to the light. Embracing one's inner light. (this is from the repertory of Woodland Essence)

Infinity Horizontal Balances the rhythm between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, between feminine and masculine, yin and yang. For being grounded when "walking a tightrope in midair."

There may be other essences that come to mind for you - simply write them down and ask them to help as needed. I know they will respond.

Please know that you have the power to make a difference right from your own home through your thoughts and prayers, wherever you are on the Earth. Stay focused on cleansing, clearing and healing the water, the land, and the people and animals, and restoring a sense of basic security in alignment with the Soul intent of each person and living thing that has been touched by this event. Once a sense of security returns, no matter how fragile it might be, people can begin to take the next steps to restore, rebuild or relocate - whatever is for their highest and best good, and beyond their highest and best good. Basic security is so important right now.

Thank you all for whatever you are doing to contribute to our collective recovery. The strength and resilience of the human spirit is being tested once again, and I know we will shine through this, too. While we must acknowledge and act as quickly as possible to heal the horror and devastation, we must also remember that we were made for these times. We have all the resources we need, living right in our Hearts.

peace and blessings,
nanci

Dear Members and Friends,

Thank you so much for all the offers of help and support. Best Friends role in the hurricane relief effort is now becoming considerably more focused, and we'll be updating you every day or two. Here's today's update:

BACKGROUND: We are now working on site with the St Francis Animal Sanctuary in Tylertown about 100 miles north of New Orleans. We consider them a sister sanctuary. They have facilities for about 400 dogs and cats. And they are being inundated! 80 more from the Humane Society of Louisiana. And 100 more from Jefferson Parish (New Orleans) Animal Control.

They have food for less than 24 hours. And they have a well, but no power to pump water. But they do have the basic facilities to operate as a sanctuary for adoptable animals from New Orleans

So we are working with them to build up their facilities and run a joint project as base camp for adoptable animals being evacuated from New Orleans.

Our Director of Ops, Paul Berry, is now in metro New Orleans, working with Bert Smith, Director of Animal Control for Jefferson Parish. Bert is charged with rounding up stray animals. And he in turn will be taking as many as we possibly can to the St Francis sanctuary for shelter, and then to be placed in foster or adoptive homes.

A team of four from here at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary set off in a convoy for Louisiana this morning (Thursday). They are carrying food, generators, fencing, and many other supplies.

Another team from Best Friends Atlanta arrived in Louisiana this afternoon to start ferrying animals from animal control to the St Francis sanctuary.
