'It was a gamble,' he recalls, 'but it worked.'" (for more on the history of Earth Day, click here http://www.earthday.net/resources/2005materials/history.aspx) It's hard to believe that Earth Day was founded 35 years ago. I remember (or think I do, anyway!) going to the Hollywood Bowl to hear Joan Baez and other musicians and speakers share their perspective the first year. It was quite the big deal at the beginning, and the vision behind it is certainly in need of support today. This year in Louisville, we planned an Earth Day celebration at a recently installed labyrinth located just inside the gates at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. The original schedule called for drumming and a labyrinth walk, but it turned into a full tilt baptism! Only two of us were crazy enough to show up despite the warnings of heavy rainstorms and potentially violent weather, and we both got soaked to the skin, pelted with hail, blown around by the wind, and serenaded by tornado warning sirens it was quite the celebration! I sang a song, we both prayed, Vicki (bless you for showing up!) made a pass around the labyrinth playing her (waterproof!) drum, then we waited under a tree in the hopes the skies would clear. When the sirens continued to blast, we decided to make a mad dash for Vicki's car (closer than mine). Our feet were sloshing in water-filled shoes, Vicki held the card table over her head, I had my jacket around my drum and a box of candles, keeping them dry instead of me. By the time I got home (only about a 20 minute drive), the sun was shining. There was even a rainbow after the storm, and it was reported on the evening news. Definitely one for the memory books! May we have many future Earth Days, and may we celebrate, every day, our beautiful Gaia, our Mother Earth, source of all life. many blessings, ***(((((((((((((((((((((((((^.^.^.^.^.^.^)))))))))))))))))))))))))*** Table of Contents 1. essences "featherhawk essences represent a higher octave of nature's physical properties. They work at the most subtle levels of our being to heal and restore balance and harmony to body, mind, soul, and emotions. Each essence is an individual intelligence, helping us recognize and heal the relationship between our personality or learned behavior, and our essence, or original soul intent. They offer insight, guidance and support as we navigate our way through these crazy times, healing our collective past and stepping joyfully into our future. Best of all, they are easy to choose and use with confidence. If time permits, Nanci will dowse a few callers for essences to give you an idea of their ability to speak to the heart of our life issues." Nanci Wesling is an energy practitioner, ordained minister, and teacher. She began co-creating featherhawk essences in 1992. Note: essences are different from essential oils - they are fragrance free and taken internally. InspirationWhile many read the book, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, years ago, I, the perpetual late bloomer, just read it for the first time a few of weeks ago. What a gift! Siddhartha is truly a man who listens to his heart and his own inner guidance in all things, and walks his own path. In the last chapter, after a long and varied life, Siddhartha has become a ferryman. The closest friend of his early life and explorations, Govinda, comes to the river to see the ferryman because he has heard he is a very wise person. Even when he see his old friend, he doesn't recognize him right away. He says to Siddhartha, "I am indeed old, but I have never ceased seeking. I will never cease seeking. This seems to be my destiny. It seems to me that you also have sought. Will you talk to me a little about it, my friend?" Siddhartha says, "What could I say to you that would be of value, except that perhaps you seek too much, that as a result of your seeking you cannot find." "How is that?" asked Govinda. "When someone is seeking," said Siddhartha, "it happens quite easily that he only sees the thing that he is seeking; that he is unable to find anything, unable to absorb anything, because he is only thinking of the thing he is seeking, because he has a goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: to have a goal; but finding means: to be free, to be receptive, to have no goal. You, O worthy one, are perhaps indeed a seeker, for in striving towards your goal, you do not see many things that are under your nose." As he lets his friend know that he is Siddhartha, Govinda is astounded that he did not recognize him. Alas, Govinda was seeking, and did not find his old friend right in front of his face. For me, this speaks to the power of the present moment. To be truly present, here, now is a gift of great value. My mind is constantly seeking, thinking, racing here and there, looking forward towards tomorrow and back to yesterday, while today goes sailing by and I wonder where it went. Until next time... try standing still and looking around at NOW! * * * * * * * Thank you! ©2005 by Nanci Wesling
