This edition of the newsletter is dedicated to the memory of Toni Scott. Toni and I met in Boulder, Colorado, in 1987 or 1988. We were part of a group who gathered around the work of Kay Snow-Davis. Over the years Toni and I stayed in touch, and got together the few times that I visited Boulder since moving to Indiana in 1993.

I remember her great courage struggling with the aftereffects of an auto accident many years ago. She shared her life with her beloved ferrets and her many friends and students. The last time I was in Colorado, in 1999, she was expanding the small garden outside her apartment with beautiful flowers. So indicative of her love of life. On February 10 this year, I received a Valentine's greeting from her.

I just learned this past Friday that Toni made her transition on February 20. Those of you who knew Toni will remember her tenderness and peacefulness. She was a good friend and a patient and loving teacher. She will be missed.

many blessings,
nanci

4. Events: Festival of Healing and Spiritual Awareness, April 1, 2 & 3

1. The last two issues began with the question, "There are so many essences! How do I know what to choose?"

Here is a brief review: become familiar with the definitions, or to simply read the descriptions and choose the one(s) that seems most appropriate to your situation or the issues you are dealing with.

Use your body's wisdom for guidance. We looked at "Checking with Fingers and Thumb," a technique that involves moving your thumb over the first two fingers of the same hand and noticing how it feels.

Then we looked at one form of Muscle Testing and Dowsing with a Pendulum, followed by "Body Forward, Body Back."

(To review the techniques in more depth, please see the back issues of the featherhawk newsletters http://www.featherhawk.com/back_issues/)
Themes and Soul Issues
Here is the beginning of the Themes and Soul Issues. The first three Themes are Abandonment, Abuse and Addiction.

Examine each essence for its relevance to your personal situation, and use your body wisdom tools (from the last two issues of the newsletter) to help you select the essences that will best help you move to your next level of highest good.

Please note that even if you feel that the major themes do not apply to you, the individual essences may have deeper significance beyond the theme. If you test yourself and need any of the essences, please honor your body's request and inner knowing. You may be surprised by the results!

If you would like suggestions as you begin to explore these, drop me a line, nanci@featherhawk.com. I'll be happy to support your expansion any way I can.

3. Inspiration

I'm drawing from "The Biology of Transcendence" again in this issue, exploring child-rearing, with a bit more on play.

In the Epilogue, Joseph Chilton Pearce discusses another book, 'The Continuum Concept." It is written by Jean Liedloff and explores the Yequana, an aboriginal group living on the upper Cuara River basin in Venezuela.

"She reported that these people had no word for disobedience, and she found it impossible to explain such a condition or phenomenon to them because no Yequana child had ever disobeyed. Their understanding seemed to include only that a child acted like a child---his actions were accepted unconditionally, for they had never seen a child not act like a child. To the Yequana, whatever a child did was what children do and each child did, though quite individually and uniquely, as adults did...."

"No child had ever acted in a way injurious to or unpleasant toward another because no adult acted in such a way.... Yet Yequana children obeyed their parents and elders, in our sense of the word---immediately, completely, and as naturally as breathing, accepting unconditionally their parents' requests just as their parents unconditionally accepted their children's actions...."

"We have ignored for half a century or more the studies that show some 95 percent of all a child's learning or 'structures of knowledge' form automatically in direct response to interactions with the environment, while only about 5 percent form as a result of our verbal teaching or intellectual instruction."

And referring back to the last issue and Mr. Pearce's experience of play... "Our world today looks on play as a waste. Frugal hard work is the ideal. That we are born to enjoy life is anathema to church, government, and industry. We must win the luxury of enjoyment through hard work---or purchase it on credit. In truth, in dying we who have worked so hard and never played will be just as dead as a dead Senoi who lived his life in joyful play."

Until next time... start playing!
