Your
companion animals can benefit tremendously from nature
and flower essences. Animals are highly sensitive to the flow
of energies in and around themselves, and are always eager to
return to a state of balance if their inner or outer environment
has
been upset or thrown off balance somehow.
Since
I began using essences in 1987, one comment I often
hear from people who doubt that essences can help them is,
"It's just the placebo affect. How can plain old water with
a little
Brandy in it help anybody feel better?"
I
could offer a fairly convincing argument that the placebo
affect is, in fact, evidence of the power of the mind to heal
the body... and I'm not going to go there today. I am going
to give you some examples of the effectiveness of using
essences with animals. I will even venture that results in
animals are proof, however unscientific, that essences are
effective beyond any so-called "placebo affect." Animals
are blessedly free of human's powers of logical argument.
They simply accept the gift gratefully and get on with their
lives. We could learn a few things from them....
Introducing Boots and Chani
Although
I have been without animal companions since
September 1999 when my beloved dog, Chani, passed
on (her photo is at the top of the first page of the
Animal Kingdom Essences on the web site as well as in
the photo above), I used essences with her beginning in
1988, when she was about 3 years old. I also had a cat,
Truly Snooty Booties (also shown above, Boots for short).
Booties was 8 when he was first introduced to them.
The
most dramatic shifts happened when one or the
other was traumatized. I'll never forget one night when
Booties had gone outside just before bed time. I heard
cats snarling and went running outside. I couldn't find
him, but in a few minutes he came dashing into the
house, hair standing on end, his tail about 3 times
its normal size.
Chani
got to him before I did, gently sniffing to see what
had happened. And Boots hissed at her --- something
he NEVER did! You can see how well the two of them got
along. If anything, Boots was more fond of Chani than
she was of him. One way or the other, this was very
unusual behavior for Boots.
I
gathered him up in my arms hoping to calm his
frazzled nerves and help him recover his dignity. I also
wanted to find out if he was injured. Nothing seemed to
be broken or bleeding, but his little heart was just
pounding and it was taking him a long time to get
over the fright. He was, after all, about 13 years old
at the time.
Earth to Nanci...
I
sometimes find that I try everything but essences first,
then finally the light comes on and I remember how
powerful they are. (Do any of you do that? The most
obvious answer is right in front of you and you keep
looking frantically everywhere else?)
This
was the case that night. At last I took him into the
healing room and checked him for essences, and he
was calmed almost immediately. I continued to check
him for over the next several days as I was aware how
very shaken he was by the experience.

This
is one of my favorite classes to teach! You will
make one quart of your essence in the morning
(the most auspicious time!) and in the afternoon we
will gather together in a circle and sample each new
essence, one at a time. As a group we will go within
and see what our individual experience is, then share
with the group.
On
Sunday, you will receive one ounce of each essence
made in the class to start your personal essence
"pharmacy," and we will begin exploring the many ways
of using essences to restore wholeness and harmony
in your life. Lots of experiential exercises and practice!
The
steps involved in making an essences are straight-
forward and easy to follow. The gift is the sacred attitude
and connection with nature that you will experience in
this workshop. Come ready to meet the deva of the flower
