Happy
Valentines Season!
Days
are getting shorter and shorter, it seems, even though
the cycle of the seasons says they should be getting longer.
That it is already February astounds me. I trust the new year
is going well for you, as we looking joyfully towards the
coming Spring! (Are the crocuses up yet??!!??!) (Or Fall, for
those of you in the Southern Hemisphere!)
The
newsletter continues to evolve. It has a new name,
*Essences for Life*, and a simpler design. I'm developing
regular columns, and some will appear in every issue,
some will be included periodically. If you have an area of
special interest and you feel essences could work their
magic for you, let me know.
Here's
an introduction to some of the topics:
*The
Whole of You: Body, Mind & Soul*
We'll examine the holistic view of life, health and wholeness,
and discover the many ways essences and other holistic
modalities can support you to restore wholeness to yourself
and your life.
*New
Products*
As new products are introduced, you will be the first to
hear about them and have the opportunity to play!
*Essence
of the Month*
This column is ongoing, with a different essence
highlighted in each issue.
*Essence
Q&A*
Please take this opportunity to ask questions about
essences and share your experiences with featherhawk
products. You'll also read about some of the amazing
work being done with essences around the world, and
learn to use them in your everyday life. So, keep those
cards and letters (and emails!) coming, and stay
tuned for lots of fun and fascinating information!
*Holistic
Animal Care*
With the introduction of Animal Emergency Soulution,
featherhawk is actively em*bark*ing (pardon the pun!)
on a path of holistic support for animals. This section
will include information and suggestions for maintaining
harmony between you and your animal companions,
(even the ones that don't bark!) and testimonials from
animals and their people who are using essences in
their lives.
*Classes
and Events*
Look for regular updates on my teaching schedule,
conferences, ongoing classes, and other special events.
Eventually (she says with great hope and conviction!)
you may even see some online courses here and/or on
the web site. If this calls to you, please let me know what
topics you want to know about most!
*Subscriber-only
Offers*
Every issue will include special discounts on products
and services, for subscribers only.
*What
I Think*
I am a rabble-rouser at heart, and there is much in the
world today that "rouses my rabble!" In this column,
I will
share a situation or experience that is in my face, so to
speak. It might be a complaint, an observation, or my
outrage at some perceived injustice in the world. I admit
to being a liberal thinker, and these articles will reflect that
bent. Soon, there will be a regular page on the web site
by the same name.
*Resources*
Links to the people and information mentioned in
*Essences for Life,* so you can do additional browsing
if you wish.
Thank
you for being the love and power that you are in
the world.

love and blessings,

The
Whole of You: Body, Mind & Soul
High
Blood Pressure and Emotional Trauma
Dr.
Samuel Mann pushes the boundaries of medicine
by demonstrating the emotional components of
hypertension, one of the most serious health
problems of our day.
--
Larry Dossey
Author of Healing Words &
Prayer is Good Medicine
Not
so very long ago, medical science was firmly
convinced the body was a machine in need of
physical and chemical manipulation, and not much
more.
Today,
numerous studies are proving what holistic
practitioners have known for a very long time: we
are what we think and feel (and what we don't
feel!) every bit as much as we are the physical
vehicle we walk around in.
In
the December 2000 edition of *What Doctors Don't
Tell You* , there are several articles about the heart.
One, on the back page, shares a personal story about
high blood pressure and its relationship to suppressed
emotional trauma. As one who believes there is an
emotional core at the center of every dis-ease we
experience, I was intrigued by the findings, and excited
at the possibilities essences hold to aid the release of
deeply held emotional trauma.
Samuel
J. Mann, MD, is an associate professor of
clinical medicine at the Hypertension Center of
The New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York
City. He sees thousands of people with all
varieties of high blood pressure.
Traditionally,
high blood pressure, or hypertension,
is linked to stress. Dr. Mann, however, has distin-
guished a pattern in his patients. "Even patients
with severe hypertension did not seem more
emotionally distressed than others," he writes in
his book, *The Hidden Cause of High Blood
Pressure: How to Find the Right Treatment*
(Thorsons UK, 1999). "Their high blood pressure
appeared to be more related to what they did not
seem to be feeling than to what they were feeling,"
he stated.
In
Dr. Mann's view, normal blood pressure fluctuates.
He feels there has been extensive overdiagnosis and
unnecessary treatment of millions of people. Anger
or stress can elevate blood pressure temporarily,
but do not actually cause hypertension. "It is our
hidden emotions, the emotions we do not feel, that
lead to hypertension and many other unexplained
physical disorders," he says.
"To
deal with hypertension,
it is necessary to bring hidden
emotions out into the light..."
When
these hidden emotions, which are often
suppressed trauma from early childhood, are
brought into conscious awareness and dealt with,
the body's inner holding and tension can be
released, and the blood pressure will drop.
The
author of the article, Annemarie Colbin of
New York, shared her experience. She was having
sudden episodes of extremely high blood pressure
(220/120 mmHg), and was unable to sleep at night.
She read Dr. Mann's book and went to see him, and
began looking for the kinds of hidden emotions he
referred to.
One
day, after a weekend of very little rest, her
blood pressure was 200/100. She went for a walk
in the park and began thinking about her years in
Budapest during World War II, where she was
between the ages of 2 to 5.
As
she was walking, she remembered a story her
mother had told her about staying in a basement
with many other people. One night her mother and
another young woman were summoned upstairs to
attend a party at the insistence of the occupying
soldiers. Annemarie, just 3 or 4 years old, was left
alone among strangers.
"I
suddenly became aware of a profound terror---
the kind that only a 3- or 4-year-old could feel---
that my mother might never come back. I knew even
then that, if she didn't return, I was dead. I had
no home, no family, no friends, nothing---it was
only her and me and, without her, I was lost."
"I
must have stayed awake all that night waiting for
my mother to come back and now, in my sleepless
nights, I was reliving that night. I lay on the grass
and cried, reliving and releasing that old terror."
"After
some time spent shaking and crying, I finally
got up and went home. Then I checked my blood
pressure: it had gone down as low as 137/82 in
one hour! I knew I was on the right track."
Dr.
Mann points out suppressed emotional trauma
is not the only cause of hypertension. If you are under
a doctor's care for high blood pressure, incorporating
this new information may help the physician select a
more appropriate drug to match your particular condition.
Do not change your scheduled medication without
checking with your physician.
Essences
Heal the Emotions
Nature
and flower essences are in their glory in a
situation like this. They heal the emotions, reconnect
the electrical system, and support the body to heal
itself at every level.
So
naturally, I would recommend diligent and focused
essence work! They support you to gently peel away
layers covering the core issue or trauma that is
contributing to your condition. Then they help you
move rapidly (yet fully) through the experience,
and let go of any residue or baggage.
With
consistent use, you may find it easier to cope
with everyday stress as well as the emotional ups and
downs that may be present from other unremembered
experiences.
Essences
are completely free from harmful side
effects, and safe to use with any medication or
treatment, alternative or conventional. And I have
always been most impressed with their gentleness.
Every
bottle is filled with nature's intelligence,
ready to assist you to heal your emotions, rebuild your
strength, expand your consciousness, and support
you to create a life you love.

tap into a vast reservoir of energy while remaining
centered and safe. Opens the heart chakra. $8.00
Chrysocolla
Clears
armoring around the heart center and
encourages giving and receiving love; for
recognizing and expressing your feelings without

Essence
of the Month: Cardinal
Definition:
"Recognize
and honor your own importance, with love as your
reference point. For honoring and embracing your true value
and affirming self-esteem. Release unhealthy patterns of ego-
centered self-importance, which includes denial of your worth
as a human being."
In
the world of birds, males generally get to look flashy while
females blend in with the surroundings to better protect their
eggs and young. Among the songbirds, it is also common
for the male to be the singer in the family. Not so with the
Cardinal. Both male and female sing, signifying the importance
of expressing the power of the "real ego," which is
full self-
expression from the integrated heart, rather than the overinflated
ego-centered attention on "me, me, me."
Cardinal
helps you move through feelings of "I'm not enough,"
which can be concealed by arrogance or other manifestations
of an over-active "me, me, me" ego, rather than self-assurance
and
self-confidence. Cardinal is a powerful remedy for knowing
you make a valuable contribution to all of life.

price $8.00

What
I Think...
Praying
Anger / Praying Peace
On
the eve of Winter Solstice, I shared the following
message with friends, family, and acquaintances.
It was sent in response to a friend who had expressed
her anger about an event in the news. The event is not
important. Where it lead me, is what I would like to
share with you.
As
I composed my response to my friend, I got in
touch with how angry I was about many things in
life right now. And I realized I was angry because
I felt helpless. Which made me feel more angry.
Then
I realized that, by making myself right (and
self-righteous), I was making just about everybody
else wrong. I was "praying anger" by thinking it
and feeling it with great depth of emotion
attached.
The
message below will be included in a new
"What I Think" page of the website soon. I share it
with you now, an alternative to "praying anger."
My
friends,
This
summer a good friend and respected teacher
said to me, "Everything that happens is allowed by
God." Now that doesn't mean God says everything is
a good idea. It just means that our free will is
so important it will not be violated, even by God.
Somehow,
life events fulfill a higher order, a
higher destiny, that I will probably never
understand. Nothing is created by only one side of
an issue or by only one person in isolation. On a
soul level, all participants in every big and
little event around the planet must be working
together even though it may appear they are
enemies. It might even appear that an event on one
side of the Earth has nothing to do with an event
on the other side. The soul operates solely for
the highest good of all concerned, so there must
be a positive outcome we can't see or even imagine
from our Earth-bound perspective.
I
have studied, the last few months, with an
organization (Landmark Education) that teaches
access to transformation comes when you are
authentic about your inauthenticities. This has
been very hard for me, as I am coming face to face
with so many places in my life where I am
inauthentic.
My
inauthenticity around "righteous anger" is this:
I have been pretending I want peace on the Earth
and for all life. Yet I am so angry in my own heart.
I'm angry about injustices around the world. I'm
angry about the mistreatment of animals. I am
angry about "politics as usual" in America. I'm
angry about the suppression of powerful healing
tools by the AMA and the drug companies. I am
angry because my life doesn't look like I think it
should. There are so many areas where I am
angry.
And
my anger, in my eyes, is perfectly justified. It is
"wrong" that these things are happening. I'm sure
I could find many people who would agree with me.
Now,
though, I must ask myself an important
question:
How
does my anger contribute to peace on Earth?
It
doesn't. Every word, every action, every thought,
is a prayer. It is a prayer because God hears it.
Now, if I were participating in a solution inspired
by my anger, that would be different; it would be
a creative and constructive response to my feelings.
However, I'm just being self-righteously outraged.
So,
who am I serving by praying anger all the time?
What person, animal, tree or plot of soil is benefiting
because I'm outraged?
My
anger creates bombs going off around the world.
It creates people killing each other over pieces of land
and differing beliefs. It creates hatred between brothers.
That's how powerful I am!
The
impact on me is that I am so caught up in being
right that I can't admit that life is just happening how
life is happening. It just is what it is. I feel helpless to
make a difference, and I'm not helpless. My very
belief that I am helpless and can't make a difference
is another inauthenticity.
I
feel responsible for fixing the world, yet I believe
I can't possibly do that because I am not good enough
or big enough or strong enough.
The
impact of my belief in my helplessness, and
the impact of my anger prayers on the world, is that
I keep contributing to this escalating anger and
hatred. And really I'm most angry at myself for
feeling helpless. And all that is bound up in my
belief that I am somehow "right" and other's are
wrong. My commitment to peace becomes a lie
because I continue to pray anger, continue to
believe I am helpless, and continue to believe
others are "wrong."
Will
it all stop if I get peaceful? I don't know.
Can I even become "suddenly" peaceful? There are
lots of people out there like me, praying anger, and
I can't cause them to stop by force. I CAN become
conscious of every thought of my own, though; that
IS my responsibility, and within my control. I can
make a difference by making a commitment to
peace within myself.
My
anger is so unconscious, so knee-jerk, so
justified. It will take a huge effort for me to stop
praying anger. It's like an addiction, this self-
righteous anger I pray. It is second nature to me.
With God's help, I may be able to begin praying
peace. And, if only one other person stops praying
anger because I begin to pray peace, the whole
world will be transformed. That's how powerful
I am, too.
So
I have invented a possibility for myself:
"Who I am is the possibility of Profound Peace."
Within this possibility I can let go of praying
anger and make a difference in the world. Right
now. Today. By praying peace.
This
is my commitment: To be Peace in the world.
I
invite you to join me.
in
profound peace,
I AM nanci
In
the next issue, I will explore my understanding
about my place in the Universe.
