The dogwood tree in the front yard is about to blossom, and I have two daffodils blooming in my backyard (with the promise of several more, courtesy of the squirrels, I believe, since I didn't plant them). There's a small patch of Magic Lilies, too, that send up their abundant leaves in the spring. The first year I lived in this house I was so excited to see bulbs sprouting and could hardly wait to see what lovely flowers would appear. I waited... and waited... and the leaves just died off. So much for my green thumb, I thought. Then, much later in the summer, I looked out the window one day to see these glorious pink lilies on tall stalks. That's why they're called "Magic Lilies" - they seem to appear out of nowhere! In spring it seems as if the plant fails to bloom, when in fact, later in the year the stalks shoot up without any foliage, and these beautiful flowers burst forth. Glorious! Maybe this will be the year I get permission to make the essence. I'll keep you posted! The Festival of Healing & Spiritual Awareness in Bardstown was well received. Vendors and attendees both are committed to making a difference in their own lives and the lives of people they touch, and some wonderful people stopped by the featherhawk booth to ask questions, share their stories, and find out more about this wonderful work. Look for ongoing promotion for the next event as we increase outreach and draw more people from the region and across the US. Please consider sharing your products and services if you have a holistic practice or business. If you are seeking ways to help yourself, join us this fall! The next dates: October 28, 29 and 30. many

If you test yourself and need any of the essences, please honor your body's request and inner knowing. You may be surprised by the results! If you would like suggestions as you begin to explore these, drop me a line at nanci@featherhawk.com. I'll be happy to support you any way I can. * * * * * * * 2. Tips for Using Essences Every Day Following up on our look at Body Wisdom tools, I'd like to share some simple tips to help you incorporate the use of essences into your life on a regular basis. If you are testing yourself every day (or a schedule that fits your lifestyle, like every other day, once a week, or when you feel called to them), you may have noticed there are days when you don't test for any, days when you test for a few, and every once in awhile, it seems like you need to take every essence on the shelf. Hopefully, you see a difference in your day when you follow the guidance of the essences. I know when I first started using essences regularly there were days when it felt overwhelming and days when it was very easy. The overwhelming days it might take an hour to work through an issue, the easy days (which occur the most often) I only need one or two and my testing is over in a couple of minutes. The easiest days I don't need any! Interestingly, some of the days I didn't need any I was in the midst of what I was sure was a complete emotional meltdown. I'd run to the essences, pull out my pendulum ready to take every essence I had, only to find that I didn't test for any of them. I'd clear my energy and the pendulum, drink some water, walk around for minute and test again still didn't need any. After a while I realized that on those days, despite the appearance of near-hysteria, I was actually holding together well (that is, my electrical system was intact and my body was handling the stress and didn't need extra support). I mentioned a couple of "tips" in the previous paragraph, and I'll expand on them here. Clear my energy. There are times when my energy is not clear, and when that occurs, the pendulum is not able to give me a good answer. I might be upset, tired, frustrated anything that throws me out of balance and makes my essence selection feel weird. Below is a simple technique to use any time you are feeling fatigued or out of balance. First, "erase your forehead." Put the thumb and first two fingers of one hand together, touch the middle of your forehead, separate the thumb and fingers, moving them away from each other and out towards your temples. It's like brushing your hair out of your eyes to each side. Say, "I release any energy that darkens my own light." Repeat at least 3 or 4 times. Then "thump your thymus." Your thymus is near the top of your breastbone. Thump gently several times while you say, "I deeply love and appreciate myself." Clear the pendulum. Sometimes when I feel uncertain of the response I'm getting from my pendulum I will cup it in my hand, bring it up towards my mouth, and gently blow on it three times. You can also run it under cold water or, if it feels really unclear, place it in a bed of sea salt or bury it in the Earth over night. Drink water. Your body is like the battery in your car. If it's low on water, it doesn't work right. Step away from your essences and drink a glass of water. Give your body a moment to take it in, then try again. You can also put your hands under running water to break the energy. Walk around. This breaks your focus and takes you away from the task at hand. A walk through the room or the house may be enough, or it may serve you to walk around the block or out in the garden. If you are using one of the other body wisdom tools, rather than a pendulum, try clearing your energy, drinking water and/or walking around. Please don't bury your hands in the Earth overnight! We'll look at more tips next time. * * * * * * * 3. * * * * * * * 4. Inspiration Many years ago I read a book called, "Gifts from Eykis," by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It was his first novel, published in 1983. Very briefly, the main character is given a stack of research called the "Urantian Formulas," which, when understood, would allow interplanetary travel. After years of tweaking and experimenting, he is able to travel to Uranus. Sitting in his room at the Holiday Inn (yes, the Holiday Inn), he's trying to figure out why this seems so much like Earth. He has the TV news on in the background and is astounded at how much it resembles our newscasts here, when he hears an announcement of the upcoming "Anxiety Attack Report." Sure enough, Eykis, a beautiful female Urantian, comes on the air and delivers the anxiety attack report for that night and the coming weekend. On Uranus, you see, anxiety actually attacks and you need to know about it ahead of time! He decides he simply must interview her to discover more about these "anxiety attacks," and how the Urantians think, and the rest of the book explores life on Uranus, and, after a two week whirlwind tour of the entire planet Earth, Eykis' recommendations for us Earthlings. While I'd like to reproduce the entire book here, as it is all inspiring to me, I've chosen to share Eykis' take on our education system. Despite its 1983 vintage, the book could easily be talking about our foolish "No Child Left Behind" education system of today as she recommends a wonderful alternative, learning for Mastery: "Mastery means that the goal of education is to master the curriculum. How long it takes is quite irrelevant. It means that individuals take tests when they are ready to see how much they have mastered, rather than on a test day set aside for everyone. Mastery means no punishment for being slower or faster at mastering a subject. Mastery means that when you acquire knowledge, you get inner satisfaction, plus the A if you need the grade for record-keeping purposes. The results are personal satisfaction and inner pride, and one receives a grade of Mastery when he demonstrates mastery of the material. In a mastery system, people want to help each other, rather than compete for the few trophies that educators make available in the form of grades, honor societies, and the like. Students have freedom to develop in areas of personal interest and explore the challenging subjects without fear of 'failing.' Cooperation rather than competition is the style of learning, and cheating is impossible." "...how could anyone cheat when the goal of education is to assist each individual toward his own levels of excellence? Tell me, how can you cheat when the rewards are inner rather than outer-directed? "I saw a study in which you Earthlings tested chickens to see which ones were dumb and which smart. A length of chicken wire was set up in front of their feed, and the ones you labeled dumb sat still and ultimately died of starvation. The chickens you labeled smart walked around the barrier and got at their food. Now when chickens go around barriers for their external rewards, they're labeled smart, but when students do the same thing, you label it cheating." Eykis' thoughtful comments and advice go on like this for many pages - she addresses education, religion, medicine, government, business with wonderful insights in all areas. Highly recommended! And please, I am not advocating cheating! I have, however, always believed that intelligent people of all ages will find ways around stupid rules. Apparently chickens will, too. Until next time... go for Mastery! * * * * * * * If you are a member of the featherhawk yahoogroup, your unsubscribe instructions are at the very end of this email.
